Bloggers Quilt Festival Spring 2013 - Doublesided QAYG Flora Quilt

Hello all,

yes, believe it or not but it's time for the next Bloggers Quilt Festival on Amy's Creative Side and I can't wait to check out all the lovely quilts that are entered.

I decided to enter my reversible QAYG Flora Quilt as I consider this my greatest achievement of the last few months. It took me forever and made me curse out loud so many times. Well, maybe getting a bit of recognition for it from my fellow quilters will help me get over the trauma. :)

But finally this quilt is finished, it honestly almost broke my back and brought me to the brink of giving up on quilting altogether. It was a nightmare to make and ended up being much bigger than I am normally comfortable with. (we have a tiny tiny flat which means I find it almost impossible to make larger quilts).

Once again I made a reversible quilt with 2 very different designs on front and back. On the front I used lots of colorful Phillip Jacobs fabrics and on the back I used Flora and Fauna fabrics by Patty Young, one of my favorite lines of all time.

Making the blocks was not bad, they are all 12" wide and were really fun to make, quilting the blocks was a doddle and so much fun. The difficulty is attaching the blocks to each other. Again, the blocks were not too bad but sewing the rows together made me curse out loud many times.

But it is done and that will be the last QAYG project for a while. Well, let's see.

I hope you like it. I'd love it if you could nominate this quilt.

It is entirely pieced and quilted by myself on a domestic sewing machine.

Special technique: Quilt as you go - reversible - 2 in 1 Quilt

Lots of love,
Nadine

The back (or front??? I can never decide which is back and front, but from the way it was intended and sewn this would be the back)

and the front again:

  1. Nadine, it's gorgeous! I think my favorite is the front; no, the back; no, the front - argghg! I think I want them separated so I can ogle them both at the same time!

  12. I love your quilt Nadine - both sides. Two of my favourite fabric designers too. I've made a quilt from Patty's Flora and Fauna but haven't seen any of Phillip Jacobs' fabrics irl. I guess being a QAYG it was easier to make sure front and back lined up perfectly??? I've not make any QAYG pieces yet.

  13. Great idea with the double sidedness, don't think I've ever seen one where the two sides were entirely unrelated, but go so nicely!

  17. Both sides look great! Remember making a quilt is like birthing a child, in time you forget how much trouble and pain you went through to get it here and just love the results. LOL
