Work in progress - How to quilt?

In preparation for my craft show in May I've decided to make some more small items cos I doubt quilts sell well at craft shows. So I started working on these placemats using some Meadowsweet. But once again I can't decide how to quilt them, which color thread to use and which quilt pattern.

Any suggestions?

  1. stripes on the right where the cutlery would be and a circles or a spiral where the plate would be. Or just on big spiral starting a little to the left where the plate woudl be.
Or if you want to be super practical, just straight lines, so you can roll them up easily, my mum keeps all her placemats rolled, so she won't have to iron them before she's puttign them on the table.
    Hope that helps you.

  2. Sounds great, I went with your advice and quilted them in straight lines. I can't do swirls or circles as I can't do free motion quilting on my machine, but straight lines are always good. Thanks.
