It's a HOOT!
I have been experimenting a bit more with bag making and this latest one turned out quite well. I used It's a hoot and Crush fabrics and firm interlining.
I am still struggling a bit with the interlining actually.
I am still trying to find the right sort of interlining for bags like this one. The one I used just feels a bit too much like paper. I wanted to use something that is iron-on fusible and will stick to the fabric but it just doesn't feel right. If you have any suggestions I would really appreciate the advice.
Otherwise the bag is actually quite usable even despite some minor mistakes.
Let me know what you think.
Love, Nadine
I added two inner pockets, one open and one with a zipper

Looks lovely and all goes really well.
ReplyDeleteNot sure which interfacing you used but sounds maybe like you need to use some wadding (so you get a bit of structure but it's softer and thicker). I sometimes use a combination of interfacing and wadding. You could try wadding and use 505 adhesive spray to keep it in place or maybe fusible fleece?
Is the interfacing woven or non-woven? I didn't really know that there are different types but there are as I discovered this afternoon while planning my next project. Lisa Lam of U-handbag has written this guide which I found was quite a help to me: http://u-handbag.typepad.com/uhandblog/2007/01/interfacinginte.html.
ReplyDeletehm, not sure if it is woven actually. I wanted something that I can iron on so it stays in place and I ordered two types on interlining with different strengths online and used the stronger one for this. thanks for the link, I'll have to check it out.
ReplyDeleteand Courtney: the adhesive spray idea is great. will have to order some. thanks.
Do you have access to Pellon Fusible Fleece 987F? I love it...soft and supportive. Another, lighter, drapier one is ShapeFlex, also by Pellon, I think, number 110, if I'm not mistaken.
