I have been experimenting a bit more with bag making and this latest one turned out quite well. I used It's a hoot and Crush fabrics and firm interlining.
I am still struggling a bit with the interlining actually.
I am still trying to find the right sort of interlining for bags like this one. The one I used just feels a bit too much like paper. I wanted to use something that is iron-on fusible and will stick to the fabric but it just doesn't feel right. If you have any suggestions I would really appreciate the advice.
Otherwise the bag is actually quite usable even despite some minor mistakes.

ReplyDeleteNot sure which interfacing you used but sounds maybe like you need to use some wadding (so you get a bit of structure but it's softer and thicker). I sometimes use a combination of interfacing and wadding. You could try wadding and use 505 adhesive spray to keep it in place or maybe fusible fleece?
Is the interfacing woven or non-woven? I didn't really know that there are different types but there are as I discovered this afternoon while planning my next project. ReplyDeletehm, not sure if it is woven actually. I wanted something that I can iron on so it stays in place and I ordered two types on interlining with different strengths online and used the stronger one for this. thanks for the link, I'll have to check it out.

Do you have access to Pellon Fusible Fleece 987F? I love it...soft and supportive. Another, lighter, drapier one is ShapeFlex, also by Pellon, I think, number 110, if I'm not mistaken.
