QAYG Flora Quilt - Fresh Sewing Day

 Pheeewwww, finally this quilt is finished, it honestly almost broke my back and brought me to the brink of giving up on quilting altogether. It was a nightmare to make and ended up being much bigger than I am normally comfortable with.

Once again I made a reversible quilt with 2 very different designs on front and back. On the front I used lots of colorful Phillip Jacobs fabrics and on the back I used Flora and Fauna fabrics by Patty Young, one of my favorite lines of all time.

Making the blocks was not bad, they are all 12" wide and were really fun to make, quilting the blocks was a doddle. The difficulty is attaching the blocks to each other. Again, the blocks were not too bad but sewing the rows together made me curse out loud many times. The strips just sort of wrinkled as I sewed them on, maybe a problem with the sewing machine, feet too tight or something, and the strips on the back did not always cover the stitches from below. Very annoying. I pride myself in the quality of my quilting and this is simply not up to my standard.

But it is done and that will be the last QAYG project for a while.

Hello all,

I am currently working on my double sided quilt as you go quilt and it is driving me up the wall. It is always a risk doing a QAYG as attaching the blocks an be so tricky and sometimes I get lts of wrinkles in the strip that covers the edges of the blocks.

Oh well, I'll just have to stick to small baby quilts as that seems to be the only thing I can do. Our place is o tiny that I can never make a larger sized quilt, well unless I use the QAYG method which on't always turn out well.

So annoying.

I will show you the end result once it is finished and let you be the judge, but I am a bit disappointed with this one.

Mini Owls

Hello all,

I have some new Owls to share with you. I think I have mentioned before that I am addicted to working with felt these days, I have spent a fortune on good wool felt and embroidery yarn, and besides making lots of felt garlands I have also been handstitching smallish plush owls in felt (each ca. 5" tall and 4.5" wide).

It takes forever to do by hand but it's so relaxing and I love making these while we are watching telly in the evenings or listening to music.

I made 9 so far in lots of bright colors, each of them with wings, a beak and eyes in different colors. I also used colorful embroidery thread to show the stitches and I really like the effect. They can be used as ornaments as each of them comes with a loop for hanging.

I think these would make the perfect decor for a nursery or for Easter and other celebrations.

I hope you like them. I certainly loved making them and will no doubt make many more.

Fresh Sewing Day - First Finished quilts of 2013

I am participating in Lynne's Fresh Sewing Day and Small Blog Meet to show off what I have just finished. Go check out her blog Lily's Quilts, it's absolutely inspiring.

So here it goes: I have finished the first 4 quilts of this year, hurrah, and used the snow outside today to take some pictures. (They are not perfect pictures, mind you, still with a slight blueish tint, but I was able to lighten them and I think they will have to do.)

So these are the first few baby quilts of the year. My stock in the quilt shop has dwindled a little bit and I am still determined to come up to 100 items in the shop, as that is supposed to be the magic number when items actually start to sell. So fingers crossed I will get there one day.

I have made one baby boy quilt using the Backyard Baby collection with little bugs in jars in blues and greens with a bit of orange. I absolutely love these fabrics, they are so soft and the designs are adorable.

I have also finished a baby girl quilt using the 'We are going places' collection by Timeless Treasures with little bicycles, cars and scooters in pink green and orange.

The next quilt is my absolute favorite, I adore the Simply Color collection by Moda, the fabrics are so bright and modern.

And the last quilt is made with the Kona Solids Dusty palette in Half Square Triangles. This would actually also make a really good wall hanging, not just a bay quilt.

More Felt Garlands

Hello everyone,

sorry, I do apologize for the bright colors, I hope your eyes can handle them.

 Yep, I have now finished the garlands and have also listed them all in the shop.

There are the red heart garlands I have already shows you, but I have also listed some rainbow colored felt heart garlands.

I made horizontal garlands with 8 colorful felt hearts and here are vertical ones in 2 color orders.

And, TADA, I have also finished all my felt balls, FINALLY. Only took me an eternity to make all of them by hand, my hands still smell of the pomegranate soap I used. And trust me, I will never make any ever again. It just takes too long, it is so much work and then I can only sell them for next to nothing, if at all.

I made about 6 of the felt ball garlands but will only list them one by one.

I hope you like them. Do you work with felt? If so what do you do? I absolutely love working with felt, it is so relaxing, but not making felt balls mind you.
